Wadi Darbat waterfall during Khareef season Salalah - things to do guide for expats visiting Oman

Salalah during Khareef is not a pool-sitting city. The landscape transforms and the best experiences are outdoors — foggy mountain passes, waterfalls, smoky mathbi at roadside stalls.

Mountain Drives

Some best experiences have no destination — just driving. Jabal Al Qara through clouds, cattle on green hills. Coastal road to Al Mughsail on cliffs. Rent a car, drive, stop where beautiful. That is Khareef.

🎯 Expat Tips for Khareef Activities:
  • Start early (6-8 AM) to avoid crowds at popular wadis & waterfalls
  • Check weather via Royal Oman Police app – mist can reduce visibility on mountain drives
  • Book Khareef Festival event tickets online ahead of time for popular shows
  • Carry cash for small entry fees, parking, and local vendors
  • Pack a waterproof bag for phones/cameras – mist is constant near waterfalls
